Some thought it was revolutionary. Some thought it was too cumbersome. Some were annoyed by the fact they had to buy a giant screwdriver to repair it. Some were creeped out by the giant brass thumb :pHere are my sources: some gears , the wonderful TV source , thumb and pages source , the wonderful flip book source , pipes , more pipes , source for the wheel that moves the thumb , yet more pipes and the screwdriver .Criticism is welcome!
Oddly enough the first Stihl chainsaw was not a great commercial success. Possibly because being hand cranked it required arms like Popeye to turn it over, never mind cutting anything. It was however the most eco friendly chainsaw Stihl ever produced, consuming no fuel and producing zero emissions. In fact there is no recorded instance of it damaging the environment at all.
I thought of this as a kid but my dad wouldn't let me build it!
